Abstract
A survey by postal questionnaire of weed occurrence and problem status in South Island agricultural and pastoral land below 1220 m a.s.1. was conducted during 1977/78. This complemented a previously reported sample survey of ground cover by scrubweeds based on direct observation in the field. The linking of the surveys provided an objective framework for the subjective postal assessments, and made it possible to examine regional distribution of scrubweeds in more detail. The present survey also covered an extended range of plants, including troublesome herbaceous weeds. It is described in detail, and the linked results are given, illustrated by regional maps.
