Abstract
Renin and angiotensin studies in a case of malignant hypertension which followed X-irradiation for seminoma are described. The X-irradiation severely damaged one kidney, and partially injured the other. Serum renin levels were measured and found elevated. A unilateral nephrectomy confirmed a high tissue renin in the resected kidney. This operation was followed by a fall in serum renin to normal levels and a reduction in blood pressure. Angiotensin II infusion studies before and after nephrectomy were similar. This form of hypertension is mediated through the renin-angiotensin system. Keywords
