Abstract
Additional cases of adiaspiromycosis caused by Emmonsia parva have been detected in the rodents Peromyscus maniculatus and Microtus pennsylvanicus trapped in Saskatchewan. Early lesions in the lungs of these naturally infected rodents appear as incipient granulomas. At this stage of the infection the small adiaspores are completely surrounded by inflammatory tissue composing these granulomas. Such adiaspores can be revealed by cutting additional sections through this tissue. As adiaspores continue to increase in size the mass of inflammatory tissue becomes more organized finally appearing as “rings” around the spores.
