Abstract
A 44-year-old woman developed a rash, fever, and enlargement of the lymph nodes, liver and spleen after administration of phenylbutazone: biopsies showed a sarcoid reaction in lymph nodes and liver. The lesions resolved spontaneously within 4 months. A patch test with phenylbutazone produced a delayed hypersensitivity response in the skin. The sarcoid reaction in this case was considered to be part of a systemic hypersensitivity reaction to phenylbutazone or phenylbutazone-protein complex. Syndromes such as this could be called "allergic sarcoid".
