Abstract
To the Editor: In the article by Plummer et al. (July 11 issue),* the authors established a relation between an exanthematous disease and a parvovirus. In my opinion, however, they did not show that the disease was indeed erythema infectiosum or the "fifth disease" that those of us in practice have recognized clinically for many years.It is true that what we have called "erythema infectiosum" is benign and that the rash can come and go for several weeks. But, as Plummer et al. themselves pointed out, only 1 of their 19 patients had the typical "slap sign" or lacy . . .Keywords
