PROTEIN-BOUND IODINE IN SERUM OF RATS RECEIVING IODIDE OR IODINE WITH OR WITHOUT GOITROGEN*†

Abstract
Oral or parenteral admn. of KI to growing Wistar rats for 17-74 days raised the serum protein-bound I in 5 out of 6 expts. Simultaneous ingestion of propyl thiouracil interfered with this increase in both oral expts. and in 2 of the parenteral studies. Injn. of elemental 12 produced marked increases in PBI. Concomitant goitrogen therapy further augmented these rises in some but not all the expts.
