Some Effects of Source of Protein and an Antibiotic on Reproductive Performance in Gilts

Abstract
Gilts receiving animal protein reached puberty 16.9 days earlier and ovulated 0.9 egg more than comparable gilts receiving only vegetable protein. Gilts receiving chloromycetin had higher embryo survival rates (81% vs. 68.5%) than those receiving no antibiotic. No detrimental effect of chloromycetin on hemoglobin levels was demonstrated.
