Abstract
O2 consumption, CO2 production, rectal temperature and skin temperatures were measured in 6 conscious Yucatan miniature swine. Heat production was calculated from O2 consumption and CO2 production data. Under ambient conditions (20.degree. C), the parameters studied were similar to what has been reported for conventional domestic swine. During 90 min of cold exposure (0.degree. C), O2 consumption increased by approximately 50%. At 0.degree. C, excessive shivering and grunting were noticeable and were associated with decreases in skin and rectal temperature. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
