Abstract

We report experimental evidence for a spin of

\frac{3}{2}

and negative parity for the

Y_{1}^{*} (1660)

, based on a study of a production experiment,

K^{-} p \to Y_{1}^{*} {(1660)}^{+} + π^{-} \to Σ^{\pm} π^{\mp} π^{\pm} π^{-}

, in the region 2.1 to 2.7

\frac{GeV}{c}

. The spin was determined by an Adair analysis of the

Y_{1}^{*} (1660)

decay angular distributions, and the parity determination was based on a Dalitz-Miller type of analysis of the

Y_{1}^{*} (1660)

decay into

Σ π π

, involving three interfering processes and some background.
