Abstract
Long-term administration of CCl4 to rats produced proteinuria and histopathologic glomerular alterations. The effect of prior reduction of renal mass on the long-term nephrotoxicity of CCl4 was studied. Female Sprague-Dawley rats with uninephrectomy received twice-weekly i.p. injections of corn oil or corn oil with 0.05-0.1 ml CCl4. Rats were studied for up to 36 wk. Increased urinary protein and albumin excretion was noted in the rats receiving CCl4 after 10 wk. Glomerular abnormalities were noted only in rats receiving CCl4. Glomeruli were focally sclerotic with large electron-dense deposits within capillary lumina. Visceral epithelial cell injury was also frequently seen. Tubulointerstitial alterations were also more frequent in animals given CCl4. Reduced renal mass may have enhanced the long-term nephrotoxicity of CCl4.This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
