Abstract
Several tests are available for the hypothesis stating that there is no 3-factor interaction in a 2 × 2 × 2 contingency table. This paper provides an empirical study of the behavior, under H 0 well as under a variety of alternatives, of six tests. Pearson's X 2 test, which was first applied to the 2 × 2 × 2 table by Bartlett (1935) is found most powerful among the tests which do not inflate the nominal significance level.
