Abstract
A study was made of activity in the cervical spinal cord of the cat by intracellular recording from motoneurons. Monosynaptic EPSPs and di- and polysynaptic EPSPs in cervical motoneurons closely resembled postsynaptic potentials of lumbosacral motoneurons. Excitatory interconnections between certain types of motoneurons were found which do not fit the myotatic unit concept. It is suggested that these interconnections may be understood in terms of a wider concept of synergism. A mechanism of EPSP depression attributable to primary afferent depolarization is described and compared with the presynaptic inhibitory mechanism of the lumbosacral cord. Keywords
