Abstract
Electron channelling patterns in the scanning electron microscope (Coates 1967, Booker, Shaw, Whelan and Hirsch 1967) have been generated on bulk ferromagnetic crystals, including cobalt, iron, Fe3Al and barium ferrite. In cobalt, distortions have been detected in the patterns, and are attributed to the effect of the; demagnetizing fields outside the specimen surface on the incident beam. It is suggested that the distortions may be used to estimate the strength of the demagnetizing fields. Keywords
