Abstract
Cephacetrile (7-cyanoacetamido-cephalosporanic acid sodium), a new injectable cephalosporin, was administered to healthy volunteers. The serum and urinary concentrations after a 500 mg. dose intramuscularly and intravenously were measured. Probenecid was shown to delay the excretion of cephacetrile. The levels obtained were adequate to treat either systemic or urinary infections with susceptible organisms. An interesting finding was that higher serum levels of cephacetrile were obtained after intramuscular injection into the thigh than after buttock injection. Keywords
