Abstract
Degradation of insulation systems by partial discharges (PD) is well known. Although measuring systems are used to classify PD activity, only little information is available about the relationship between PD energy and degradation. Internal PD‐ respectively gas‐discharge processes in spherical voids are calculated with a simulation program. The model is two dimensional, rotational symmetric and regards the gas‐discharge processes by their transport coefficients. The calculated energy densities, which are responsible for material degradation, are discussed in detail. Keywords
