Abstract
The occurrence in algae of 2 groups of plant hormones, the auxins and gibberellins, was investigated. Auxins have been shown to occur in the Chlorophyceae, Chrysophyceae, Cyanophyceae, and Phaeophyceae. Approximately I[long dash] 20 [mu]g auxin/kg fresh weight of material can be detected by bioassay. In addition, several unidentified indole compounds believed to be concerned in the biogenesis or degradation of the indole auxins can be located by chemical color reactions in extracts from several spp. of algae. Gibberellins have been located in Fucus spiralis (Phaeophyceae) and Tetra-selmis spp. (Chlorophyceae). Amounts vary between 0.1[long dash]10[mu]ggibber-ellin/kg fresh weight and are thus slightly lower than the amounts of auxin found in algae. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
