Abstract
In the large brown alga Macrocystis auxin is present in a conc. of 0.5 y equivalents of indoleacetic acid per kg. fresh wt. In the green alga Bryopsis 80 and in Elodea 50 [gamma] equivalents were found (cf.: in corn 0.5, and in pea seedlings 50). In the upper 50 cm. of the thallus the upper blades have the highest auxin conc. and the stipe the lowest. The auxin of the Macrocystis has a diffusion coefficient which indicates that it is indoleacetic acid rather than auxin-a or -b.Keywords
