Abstract
Clinical trials demonstrated the efficacy of medications such as oral hypoglycemics, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors (statins) among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM).1-4 Accordingly, national clinical practice guidelines advocated for glycemic, blood pressure (BP), and cholesterol control as key components to preventing complications of DM.5 Despite these recommendations, only 43%, 29%, and 52% of patients with DM achieved guideline targets for glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), BP, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels, respectively.6,7Keywords
