Abstract
A group of relatively large encrusting foraminifers dominates the fauna living on the upper surface of manganese nodules. Although these organisms are abundant in the deep sea and are potentially important in benthic community structure and energy flow, many are undescribed, even at the family level. Formal descriptions of two mat-like species, CHONDRODAPIS hessleri, n. gen., n. sp. and Chondrodapis integra, n. gen., n. sp. are presented here along with informal descriptions of 13 other encrusting taxa.
