Treatment of Pulmonary Mycotic Infections with Amphotericin B

Abstract
EFFECTIVE therapy for most of the deep mycoses has not been available until recently. With the exceptions of iodides for sporotrichosis, penicillin for actinomycosis, sulfadiazine for nocardiosis and the stilbamidines for blastomycosis, drug therapy of mycotic infections was generally disappointing before the use of the antifungal antibiotic, amphotericin B.Early reports1 , 2 on amphotericin B treatment of patients with histoplasmosis and cryptococcosis were favorable.
