Abstract
The bacteriostatic effect of specific antiserum on Clostridium welchii type A was profoundly influenced by the pH and Eh of the medium. With suitable concentrations of specific antiserum relatively high pH and Eh values led to a well-marked inhibition of growth accompanied by destruction of the bacteria. A relatively low pH or Eh led to a decrease or abolition of the inhibitory power of the specific antiserum. Neither complement nor properdin appeared to be involved in the bacteriostatic effect. Keywords
