Abstract
A method is described whereby pH and Eh of a medium can be closely controlled during the growth of Clostridium welchii type A for long enough to study the bacteriostatic effects of horse antiserum. The pH value was controlled manually to about [plus or minus]0.01 unit (S.D.), by adjustments in the CO2 tension of the gas above the medium. The Eh was controlled by the addition of oxygen to a system with an inherent tendency to become reduced. With manual control the Eh was maintained within [plus or minus]2 mV (S.D.); automatic control gave better regulation than this. Keywords
