Abstract
Nitocrella, typically a low salinity/fresh-water genus, represented by a new species in South Carolina [USA], N aestuarina sp. nov. is the 1st Nitocrella reported from North America and inhabits high salinity (28-34.permill.) Spartina alterniflora marshes. This new species belongs to the N. vasconia-group of species sensu Petkovski and differs from the other known species making up the group in P5 [leg-5] and P2-P4 exopod setation. A key to all species of the N. vasconia-group of Nitocrella is presented. M. mexicana, heretofore known only by the female from the Texas Gulf coast, co-occurs with N. aestuarina in South Carolina marshes. The male of M. mexicana differs from the female in the A1 [antennule], P3 and P5.This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
