Abstract
To circumvent the problems inherent in allogeneic bone marrow transplantation, allogeneic cord blood has been studied as an alternative source of hematopoietic stem cells. Preliminary results with cord blood from an HLA-matched sibling are encouraging, but the experience with this procedure is limited.1-5 Although some 200 transplantations of cord blood have been performed in children,6,7 few have been performed in adults. We describe an adult with chronic myelogenous leukemia who underwent the transplantation of cord-blood stem cells successfully. Keywords
