Diagnosis of the Hormonal Balance During the Progestational Phase of the Cycle

Abstract
A group of 24 patients were operated during the second half of the menstrual cycle. Simultaneous examination of vaginal smear, endometrial and ovarial biopsies and determination of estrogens, pregnanediol and 17-keto-steroids from 24 hour urine was performed. Two cases of ovulatory hyperestrogenic cycle were subjected to a detailed analysis. An extragenital etiology was considered probable in these cases. The endocrinological diagnosis by the aid of a single cytological specimen was in most cases possible.
