IDENTIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF KINGELLA KINGAE

Abstract
K. kingae is a rarely isolated opportunistic pathogen in the family Neisseriaceae. Thirteen strains of this organism, including 6 strains isolated in Denmark, were characterized. They formed a homogeneous group of small, non-motile, fastidious gram-negative rods which were .beta.-hemolytic, oxidase positive, catalase negative and saccharolytic. Acid was produced from glucose and maltose. Growth was most pronounced aerobically but corroding colonies increased considerably in size during anaerobic incubation.
