Abstract
A method for constructing a complete set of independent symmetry coordinates for the in-plane vibrations of any polycene is given. Calculated vibrational frequencies from the previously developed five-parameter force field are given for naphthacene, hexacene and octacene. Those of napthacene and octacene. Those of napthacene are compared with experimental data. For hexacene and octacene the calculated mean amplitudes of vibration at 298 K for the bonded CC distances are reported. Keywords
