Abstract
A specialist in the forest industry of the Russian Federation examines the balance between supply and demand for forest products within European Russia. The paper—which surveys the region's forest resources, manufacturing capacity, and export capabilities—emphasizes developments in major reserve and production centers in the North, Northwest, Volga‐Vyatka, and Urals economic regions. The relatively greater share of commercially exploitable forest in the North and northern Urals region is a focus of attention in this context. Forecasts are presented of longer‐term economic harvest levels (concentrated primarily in the northern regions), estimated demand, and export volumes and requisite capital investments. Keywords
