ADDISON'S DISEASE ASSOCIATED WITH SOUTH AMERICAN BLASTOMYCOSIS

Abstract
Three cases of proven systemic South American blastomycosis developed a clinical and laboratory picture of adrenal insufficiency asthenia, low blood pressure, weight loss, pigmentation, abnormal water loading test, hyponatremia and hyperkalemia. The adrenal stimulation test with intravenous ACTH showed no response in 2 cases and decreased response in the third, as indicated by urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroid and 17-ketosteroid excretion. Thus, in endemic areas, South American blastomycosis should be considered as an entity which may produce the clinical picture of Addison''s disease.
