Abstract
A sensitive and specific radioimmunoassay for 8-hydroxyadenine was developed. As little as 4 .times. 10-14 mol of 8-hydroxyadenine can be detected. Unmodified DNA cross-reacts only at concentrations greater than 20 .mu.g/ml. 8-Hydroxyadenine can be detected in .gamma.-irradiated DNA at doses less than 10 Gy [gray]. The assay requires only mild chemical treatment and many samples can be quickly and easily handled.
