Abstract
It is shown that the Callan-Gross sum rules for electroproduction fail in perturbation theory. Nonperturbative lepton annihilation sum rules are derived. The inapplicability of perturbation theory is traced to the breakdown of the Johnson-Low-Bjorken high-energy theorem. Keywords
