Abstract
With a defined medium capable of purification free from trace elements, it was shown that Zn and Cu were essential for antibiotic produc tion, because they were essential for growth. Approx. 5 times as much Fe was required for antibiotic production as for growth alone. Mn could not be shown essential for either growth or antibiotic production. Keywords
