Abstract
In the dog, suprarenalectomy produces a decrease of Na and chloride, and an increase in K and P of the plasma. The modifications disappear and the chemical composition of the blood returns to normal when cortico-suprarenal extract is given. Extirpation of the sympathetic abdominal chain and splanchnic nerves does not modify plasma K. De-medullation of one suprarenal gland and extirpation of the other does not produce immediate effects on plasma K, and later, between 6th and 13th days, there is a small increase in this substance attributable to the development of a mild degree, of adrenal insufficiency. The factors regulating plasma K conc. are discussed and the most probable reasons for the increase of the element are given. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
