Abstract
A study was conducted to determine the effects of soybean oil meal and of genistin extracted from it on growth and reproduction of the mouse. Growth of the mice from three to 7 weeks of age was not affected by the treatments used in this experiment. Both commercial soybean oil meal and isolated genistin significantly lowered the age at which the vaginas of immature mice opened. The principal effect on reproduction of 0.2% genistin in the diet was a decrease in the number of litters born, whereas litter size was not affected. The effect of commercial soybean oil meal (80% of the diet) on the number of litters born was not statistically significant but the number of litters obtained was less than that from the group of females on the control diet. Keywords
