Abstract
A connection between the kinetic theory of the hydrodynamic interaction and continuum mechanics is established. Namely, the rheological equation of state for the Rouse dumbbell model with consistently averaged hydrodynamic interaction is derived. Several applications of this equation of state are discussed. Keywords
