Computer Simulation of Lamellar Keratectomy and Laser Myopic Keratomileusis

Abstract
The finite element numerical method was used to construct a mathematical model of the eye that analyzes stress-strain relationships in the corneoscleral shell. An axisymmetric geometry was defined for both the emmetropic and the myopic eye. Computations concerning the effect of myopia, lamellar keratectomy, and myopic keratomileusis were carried out. Lamellar keratectomy and keratomileusis increased the stress at the level of the cornea and shifted the load-bearing of the cornea from the inner layers to the more outer layers. Stress distribution in the sclera was not affected by lamellar keratectomy.
