Thermal properties ofEu3S4: Order-disorder transition

Abstract
Capacitive thermal-expansion, specific-heat, and electrical-resistivity measurements on single crystals of Eu3 S4 and La3 S4 have established for Eu3 S4 a first-order, nonstructural phase transition near Tt=186 K and the entropy change ΔS=9±0.9 J/moleK of an order-disorder transition with a configurational entropy Rln3. The transition exhibits ΔVV=9×104 and dlnTtdp=dlnEadp=8.7×1011 Pa1, i.e., a proportionality between Tt and the activation energy Ea of the resistivity.
