Abstract
In expts. on waking dogs using chronic Thiry-Vella fistulae previously prepared from segments of low ileum, introduction of distilled water interferes with the ability of this portion of the intestine to do osmotic work. In acute expts. in anesthetized dogs distilled water was shown to cause swelling and fraying of the ileal epithelial layer. 0. 9% NaCl soln. was without ill effect in either type of expt. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
