Abstract
TRACHEOTOMY is performed at every age of life. The indications for tracheotomy vary considerably in childhood from those in adult life. In a small child the operation requires a more meticulous surgical technic than the same procedure in a fully developed adult. Mortality, postoperative complications and the ease of decannulation differ substantially in children and in mature persons. Recent reviews1 2 3 4 of the procedure have included patients of all ages in describing the indications, technics, complications and results of tracheotomy.
