Einfluß von Testosteron auf den DNA-Stoffwechsel in Vesikulardrüsen unreifer Ratten

Abstract
The influence of testosterone on the uptake of [2-14c]thymidine into the seminal vesicles of immature Sprague-Dawley rats was studied. The uptake was markedly increased 18 hr. after a single dose of testosterone. By extrapolation, the testosterone probably acts much earlier than this on DNA metabolism. The nucleus and DNA are responsible for the uptake and for the increase in uptake. The water content of the seminal vesicles is not altered by testosterone. The concentration of RNA increases markedly, but DNA decreases. There is only a 25% increase of DNA, compared to RNA in the seminal vesicle. The increase in size and weight of the seminal vesicle is interpreted as hypertrophy resulting from increased protein. The early, testosterone-induced increased uptake of [2-14c]-thymidine into the seminal vesicles is not directly connected with the process of cell division. Under the same conditions, testosterone increases the uptake of [2-14c]thymidine into the musculus levator ani, but not into the liver. A 10-fold dose of 17-[beta]-hydroxy-l-methyl- [DELTA]1-androstenone-(3) (methenolone), an anabolically active steroid, increases the uptake of [2-14c]thymidine into the seminal vesicles, but st the most, only hall as actively as testosterone.
