The Production of Hydroxylamine by the Reduction of Nitrates and Nitrites by Various Pure Cultures of Bacteria

Abstract
Hydroxylamine was demonstrated as a reduction product of nitrates and nitrites in broth cultures of Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, B. vulgatus, B. ramosus, and B. anthracoides. The test for hydroxylamine consisted essentially in determination of nitrites formed by oxidation of hydroxylamine with I.
