Abstract
By employing a femtosecond-pulse color-center laser, we were able to study quantitatively the process of self-phase-modulation-mediated four-wave mixing in an Er-doped optical fiber. It has been demonstrated that this scheme leads to the generation of femtosecond pulses in the 1.3-μm spectral region when a 1.5-μm mode-locked laser source is used. Keywords
