Influence fo Aged Corn and Supplemental Vitamin A on Growing-Finishing Swine

Abstract
Two experiments were conducted to evaluate aged corn and vitamin A supplementation for growing-finishing swine. Experiments 1 and 2 were conducted in the summer and winter months, respectively. Age of the corn showed no effect on average daily gain and serum vitamin A values. Liver vitamin A stores were higher in pigs receiving the new corn when compared with pigs receiving corn stored for 4 or 8 years. The addition of vitamin A increased serum and liver vitamin A levels. Average daily gain was increased only in groups fed vitamin A in drylot during the summer months. Pigs fed on pasture had higher serum and liver vitamin A values. Copyright © 1966.
