GAMMA GLOBULIN METABOLISM IN RABBITS DURING THE ANAMNESTIC RESPONSE

Abstract
Distribution and metabolism of rabbit gamma-globulin I131 were studied in control rabbits and in 5 rabbits undergoing the rapid development of hypergammaglobulinemia during the anamnestic response to polyvalent pneumococcal vaccine. Gamma-globulin metabolism averaged 0.05 g/kg/day in control rabbits, whereas gamma-globulin degradation rose to 0.33 g/kg/day and gamma-globulin synthesis to 0.47 g/kg/day during the anamnestic response. No difference in metabolism of homologous or autologous gamma-globulin I131 was observed.
