Evaluation of Teacher Training: Issues and an Example

Abstract
Evaluative data on the results of teacher training efforts are scarce relative to the volume of literature on the topic. A search of recent volumes of several journals located 676 articles concerning training. Only 18% reported outcome data and these reflect a lack of consensus about the choice of evaluation measures. The use of both trainee and child performance measures is proposed as a strategy to secure a valid evaluation. One example of a program evaluation for inservice and preservice training is presented.
