In-vitro efficacy of cefotiam in combination with four aminoglycosides on staphylococci and Gram-negative bacteria

Abstract

The in-vitro efficacy of cefotiam in combination with gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin and netilmicin against 129 Gram-positive and Gram-negative nosocomial strains was compared by use of the checkerboard agar dilution technique. On average only 1–5% of all strains were inhibited by synergistic, and 6–16% by additive cefotiam-aminoglycoside combinations. Antagonism was found for only two strains, 80–93% of combinations were indifferent.
