Abstract
Hepatoma in a young adult male was associated with erythrocytosis, hyper choles-terolemia, and hypertriglyceridemia. The appearance of humoral or metabolic changes in patients with obscure hepatic disease should suggest hepatic carcinoma. Assays of serum, tumor and liver for erythro-poietin activity demonstrated increased levels in serum and tumor. The serum activity was neutralized by erythropoietin antibody, thus demonstrating the close resemblance of this substance to erythropoietin. The hyperlipemia was associated with increased levels of triglyceride in liver and tumor. Serum and tissue electrophoresis of lipoproteins demonstrated a prominent prebetalipoprotein. Possible mechanisms for the hyperlipemia are discussed. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
