Alopecia Totalis after Desacetylmethylcolchicine Therapy of Acute Gout

Abstract
DESACETYLMETHYLCOLCHICINE, a crystalline alkaloid prepared from the bulbs of Colchicum autumnale and closely related structurally to colchicine, has recently been introduced for clinical trial in certain hematologic disorders and in acute gout. Several preliminary reports1 , 2 have indicated that this agent is effective in the management of acute gout and that gastrointestinal side effects may be less marked than with colchicine.
