Abstract
The flow of current in a long, straight, isotropic, conducting rod of uniform, noncircular cross section, due to a potential difference between its ends, is considered. The electric field in the material is assumed to depend linearly on the current density and to be quadratic in the magnetic field, while the magnetic permeability of the material is assumed constant. It is shown in the case of a rod of elliptical cross section that the current has a circulatory component superposed on the rectilinear flow. Keywords
