Decay of the Isoscalar Giant Resonances inPb208

Abstract
The decay of the giant-resonance region in Pb208 has been studied in a αγ angular correlation experiment via the reaction chain Pb208(α, α)Pb208 (n)GR Pb207*(γ)Pb207. The correlation functions are in agreement with the assumption of predominant E2 strength for the resonance around Ex=10.9 MeV, but require considerable strengths of excitation modes higher than E0 for the resonance around Ex=13.7 MeV. The coincident α-particle spectra show significant fine structure in the giant-resonance region.
